Frequently Asked Questions
Do you teach Brazilian Portuguese?
No, I specialise in European Portuguese. That said, I do have a solid understanding of Brazilian Portuguese, which helps me point out key differences and clarify patterns. This is especially helpful if you’ve used platforms like Duolingo or other apps that often mix the two variants or default to Brazilian Portuguese.
Are classes and courses online or in person?
All classes and courses are 100% online. You can join from anywhere in the world.
What type of classes do you offer?
I offer a range of options to fit different goals and learning styles:
- Private lessons (one-on-one)
- Group courses (beginner to intermediate)
- Intensive group programs
- Self-paced courses
- WhatsApp-based conversation practice
Each option is designed to support your language goals and lifestyle.
Can I try a class before committing?
I don’t offer one-off trial sessions, but you have two great ways to get started:
- Watch a free mini-lesson on my YouTube channel to get a feel for my teaching style.
- Book a 3-class starter package: this gives us time to build a connection, assess your level, and create a realistic learning rhythm together.
Language learning takes consistency and commitment. I don’t believe in miracle results from a single session, but I’m here to support you with structure, patience, and long-term progress.
What’s your teaching approach?
My method is practical, personalized, and culturally grounded. I tailor each lesson to your pace and interests — always focused on real-life communication and human connection.
Do you give homework or extra materials?
Yes. All students receive support materials, optional homework, and in many cases, recorded class replays. You can review at your rhythm.
Can I join if I don’t speak any Portuguese yet?
Absolutely. Many of my students start from scratch. I’ll guide you step by step, with patience and structure.
What languages do you teach in?
I teach in Portuguese, English, and I have an average understanding of German and Spanish, so I can often help bridge gaps during learning.
How long does it take to learn Portuguese?
Conversational fluency can be achieved with consistent effort in about 9-12 months, but this varies based on prior language experience and the amount of time dedicated to learning.
Do you provide certificates for immigration purposes?
No, my classes are not designed for bureaucratic or certification purposes. That’s a personal choice: my focus is on helping you build a real connection with the Portuguese language and culture, so you can arrive feeling both respectful of and respected by the local community.
If you need an official certificate for immigration, residency, or citizenship purposes, I recommend:
- Preparing for and taking the CAPLE exam (which I can help you get ready for), or
- Enrolling in certified programs through IEFP or other government-recognised institutions.
How do I get started?
